La Grange District 102

May 2026 District Newsletter

Happy Maycember to everyone! It is the time of the year with all the busyness of the holiday season, with none of the lights, gifts, or wonderful meals to look forward to.  The District has hosted so many terrific end-of-year concerts and celebrations already, and there are several more scheduled over the next few weeks as we race toward the last day of school.  It is an exciting time of the year.  All SY 25-26 celebrations come to a conclusion on June 3 with Park Graduation and on June 4 (10 am dismissal) when our elementary schools celebrate their departing 6th-grade students.

Today, we received the terrific news that all permits have been issued for the Forest Rd and Barnsdale renovation projects to begin.  This means we have officially started the work the Renew D102 team began dreaming up almost two years ago.  We anticipate final permitting for Cossitt School in a few weeks, but before the school year ends. And on June 5th, once buildings are vacated and secured, all internal work will begin on those three sites as well as on the exterior addition to Park JH. We will also see the playground renovation at Ogden School and then at Congress Park in July. With work starting this week, we are on target to open the school year on time and in person.  The District has no intention of starting the year with remote learning.  All interior work was always scheduled to begin as soon as the year ended.

I have enjoyed speaking to groups of parents and community members about all of the plans over the last few months.  We linked the slide decks that guided a few of those conversations on the Renew D102 site.  If you are interested in seeing some renderings and getting more information, please take a look.

Today marks the conclusion of a celebratory week in District 102 and across the country.  It’s Teacher Appreciation Week! I am so grateful to our entire staff for their expert, patient, tireless, and humble commitment to all the children in D102.  They have been recognized and celebrated all week (and into next week) through the generosity of our amazing PTOs and PTCs, the Education Association, our Building/District administration, and the Board of Education.  If you have always wanted to drop a quick note of appreciation to your child’s teacher, now would be a great time!

Please find a minute or two to breathe and enjoy all of the accomplishments of the school year in this Maycember rush to the last day.

Student Climate Survey Administration - Spring 2026

In D102, we know that a strong school climate has positive impacts on student achievement, attendance rates, and school safety, as well as creating conditions for developing healthy social and emotional skills.  We also feel it is critical to hear our students' voices. To help facilitate that communication, we provide a Student Climate Survey twice annually, once in September/October and again in May.  The survey may be administered in one sitting or may be split into several sections, depending on the classroom schedule.

D102 will gather 3rd-8th-grade students’ perceptions of school climate through an online Google Forms survey.

Results of the survey are confidential and will not be used to identify individual students.  Rather, the data will be used to gather an overarching sense of students’ perceptions.  Each building’s leadership team will use the survey results to inform school-wide planning, while grade-level teachers will use the data to help plan proactive classroom-based morning circles.

For more information, see:

  • Student Survey questions - grades 3-5
  • Student Survey questions - grades 6-8
  • Survey FAQ

Families that wish to opt out of the survey should either contact their elementary child’s classroom teacher or their junior high child’s advisory teacher.

RGPS

Referral GPS - Connecting People to Treatment:  We are committed to creating a culture of well-being for students, staff,  parents, and the community. In an effort to continuously support this commitment, the district has entered an agreement with ReferralGPS.

ReferralGPS is a web-based service focused on assisting our students,  staff, and community in finding local mental-health and substance use-related treatment. The service compliments the districts existing systems of support as a tool for student service teams and families to connect with treatment. Along with a searchable database of treatment options, ReferralGPS provides Care Navigation to assist families in triage, appointment setting, and follow-up care.

School families may access ReferralGPS in two ways:

1) Visit this link at https://referralgps.com/find-help/dist102 to search for treatment resources or connect with a Care  Navigator anonymously.

2) Contact Student Services (social workers, psychologists,  counselors) to seek out treatment options.

ReferralGPS takes into account all types of private and public insurance including PPO, HMO, Medicaid, Medicare, and families who are uninsured or underinsured. The platform also filters by age, gender, zip code, and special requests.

ReferralGPS is available for use by district students, staff, and families at no cost. All information entered on the ReferralGPS tool is completely confidential and securely stored.

If you are interested in seeking counseling-related services at this time,  please consider visiting https://referralgps.com/find-help/dist102 or reaching out to the Student Services team.
